A lot of the movies on this list are not original screen plays.  They're some that are original but most of them are not.  Most of the movies on this list are adapted from some book, comic, or even just some story.  They're not many movies that are original ideas anymore.  About 15 of my top 20 movies in the past year are based off of books, comics, or previous movies.

For example, obviously, X-Men, Deadpool, and Captain America are based off of comic books.  Movies get their material from comic books a lot more than people think.  They're millions of comic books out there and every super hero movie is loosely based off of a comic book.  Everest is based off of a very popular book that I have actually read.  The book is called "Left For Dead: My Journey Home From Everest" By: Beck Weathers.  This is a prime example of how many movies are made after books.

A lot of times books will write books after movies.  I never really understood this, I guess because i'm not much of a reader, but these books usually do pretty well.  You have seen those books that have the same cover as the movie poster.  I feel like those books are the exact same as the movie and I don't really understand why anybody would read them but hey, its working pretty well for the authors.

Personally I believe that movies most of the time over shadow books, especially movies that are made after books.  Yes I know people always say that the books are always better than the movies, and I believe that.  It's just I would rather see the movie and understand the premise of the book in 2 hours than read the whole book that's going to take me weeks to finish.
